Ever find yourself twiddling your tinsel, waiting for the next chapter of your beloved Christmas films? Well, fear not, the Evoluted team and AI have joined forces to fulfil your festive fantasies.

With Christmas around the corner, our Design and Digital PR team joined forces and used AI to reimagine part two of (arguably) the best Christmas films of all time.

To create the new concepts, we inputted the original film plot into ChatGPT and asked it to generate a sequel that accurately followed the original, but decades later. Then, utilising ChatGPT’s DALL-E integration, we conjured up movie posters and storyboards to bring these brand-new storylines to life.

Take a look at the five new films below and see if the sequels satisfy your Christmas cravings…

Bringing Dr. Seuss's classic tale to life, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" has long established itself as one of the best Christmas films of all time.

In the original film, the Grinch detests the holiday cheer that permeates Whoville. Deciding to put an end to the town’s joyful festivities, he concocts a plan to steal Christmas itself. However, just like the wholesome ending featuring the Grinch’s heartwarming transformation, AI’s sequel is also filled with heart and Seussian charm.

In AI’s ‘The Grinch Saves Christmas’, Cindy Lou Who and The Grinch join forces to break a magical winter curse that descends on Whoville. Here is AI’s sequel synopsis:

Whoville faces an unexpected crisis. A magical winter curse descends upon the town, plunging it into eternal darkness and stealing the joy from the hearts of the Whos. The source of this curse is a mysterious, ancient artefact hidden deep within the heart of Mount Crumpit.

Cindy Lou Who, now a brilliant young inventor, embarks on a courageous journey to break the curse and save her town. Little does she know that the reclusive Grinch, once a bitter recluse, holds the key to unlocking the artefact's magic.

As Cindy Lou and the Grinch reluctantly join forces, they traverse enchanted forests, face mythical creatures, and unravel long-lost secrets to the Whoville. Along the way, they discover the true meaning of courage, friendship, and the resilience of the human spirit. Together, they must confront their pasts and overcome their deepest fears to restore light to Whoville and rekindle the warmth of the holiday season.

The Grinch Saves Christmas is a magical and heartwarming adventure that explores themes of self-discovery, redemption, and the enduring power of hope, offering a fresh and enchanting take on the beloved characters from Dr. Seuss's world.

The Holiday

Despite being the newest film in our collection of classics, "The Holiday," released in 2006, has quickly become a firm favourite for many at Christmas. In the original, fans saw Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz’s characters swap lives during the Christmas season to seek respite from their romantic woes. But what happened next?

According to AI, the relationship between Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Graham (Jude Law) inevitably broke down after their initial romance.

Fortunately, the AI sequel brings together the two former lovers during Iris’s (Kate Winslet) book tour. Here is AI’s sequel synopsis:

Twenty years after their initial romance, Amanda and Graham have gone their separate ways due to distance and life's demands. Iris, now a successful author, writes a book about love and second chances, which her brother Graham edits. During Iris's book promotion tour, Amanda, who has spent years travelling after retiring early, is overwhelmed by her glamorous yet lonely life and decides to reconnect with Graham.

Meanwhile, Iris and her husband Miles along with Graham’s now grown-up daughters and Iris’s children, hatch a plan to reunite Graham and Amanda. They orchestrate chance encounters, using Iris's book events and Graham's editing work, to bring the former lovers back together. As Graham and Amanda navigate their complicated past and the challenges of their present lives, they rediscover the feelings they once had for each other.

Amidst heartwarming moments and unexpected twists, "The Holiday Reunion" explores the complexities of love, the significance of home, and the enduring power of second chances. Through a series of heartfelt encounters and soul-searching conversations, Amanda and Graham find themselves questioning their choices and contemplating a future together. Will they overcome the obstacles that tore them apart, or will their love story remain a bittersweet memory? The film culminates in a touching reunion that reaffirms the magic of love and the possibility of finding happiness, even after years of separation.

Packed with nostalgia and quotes for days, Home Alone is hands-down a Christmas movie fave. Fans keep coming back to it year after year, but have you ever wondered how child abandonment affected an adult Kevin McCallister?

Now 33 years (!!) after the first instalment, AI unpacks how Kevin retaliates to childhood neglect and how his children respond when they’re faced with a similar predicament to their father - this time in the modern age of technology.

In 2023, Kevin McCallister is tested for a third time, in AI’s instalment of the Home Alone trilogy. The next film chapter unveils another group of thieves, child mischief and a worried parent. Here is AI’s sequel synopsis:

In the technologically advanced world of 2023, Kevin McCallister, now a successful entrepreneur and loving father, finds himself entrusted with the grand family home after the passing of his parents. Still haunted by his own childhood experiences of abandonment, Kevin becomes an overprotective parent, showering his own kids with love and attention.

When Kevin is called away on urgent business, he leaves his children in the capable hands of their sprawling smart home, equipped with the latest in AI technology. Unbeknownst to him, a nefarious group of criminals, known as "The Cyber Phantoms," has been targeting affluent smart homes in the area, exploiting their vulnerabilities for high-tech heists.

As the Cyber Phantoms set their sights on Kevin's home, his resourceful kids, armed with their father's wisdom and a thorough knowledge of the house's smart features, rise to the occasion. With the house's AI, named A.R.I.A (Artificially Responsive Intelligence Assistant), at their disposal, they turn their residence into a high-tech fortress, complete with drones, smart appliances, and holographic decoys.

In a battle of wits and technology, Kevin's children, now the torchbearers of the McCallister legacy, work together to outsmart the Cyber Phantoms. Along the way, they uncover family secrets, strengthen their bond, and prove that the spirit of ingenuity and bravery runs in the McCallister bloodline.

"Home Alone: Caught in Cyber Chaos" is a heartwarming and thrilling adventure that explores the legacy of the McCallister family, showcasing the power of unity, love, and the resourcefulness of a new generation faced with modern challenges.

Elf

Elf 2: Rediscovering Joy

Elf became an instant holiday classic when it was released 20 years ago in 2003. Now, fans can have a second dose of their favourite holiday antidote as AI has reimagined a seasonal sequel.

In the original, we follow the adventures of Will Ferrell’s character Buddy who was brought up in the North Pole under the guardianship of Santa's elves. After finding out about his true origins he travels to New York City to find his biological father, a pessimistic New Yorker.

In the AI sequel, Buddy follows in the footsteps of his father as he too becomes a cynical citizen of New York disillusioned by Christmas consumerism.

The AI-generated sequel ‘Elf 2: Rediscovering Joy’ follows Buddy’s new family on his venture of salvaging his love for the holidays. Here is AI’s sequel synopsis:

In Elf 2, Buddy (Will Ferrell) has fully embraced his life as a traditional New Yorker, but the once-magical holiday spirit of the city has been overshadowed by materialism and consumerism. As the holiday season approaches, Buddy finds himself disheartened by the overwhelming focus on gifts and extravagant displays, leading to a loss of the genuine Christmas spirit he once cherished. Unbeknownst to him, his observant children, a curious and determined duo, notice their father's sadness.

Determined to restore the true essence of Christmas, Buddy's kids and his wife Jovie embark on a magical adventure throughout New York City. With the help of some enchanting North Pole friends, they set out to rekindle the spirit of giving, kindness, and togetherness that has been lost in the city's glitzy holiday celebrations.

As Buddy's children navigate the city's winter wonderland, they witness firsthand how materialism has tainted the holiday season, causing people to forget the joy of simple acts of kindness and genuine connections. Through heartfelt encounters and whimsical escapades, they lead their father on a journey of rediscovery, reminding him that the true magic of Christmas lies in the warmth of family, the spirit of generosity, and the beauty of shared moments.

"Elf: Rediscovering Joy" is a poignant tale of family, love, and the power of reawakening the genuine Christmas spirit. With laughter, love, and a sprinkle of elfish magic, this sequel captures the essence of the original film while delivering a powerful message about the importance of embracing the true meaning of Christmas, especially in a world overshadowed by materialism and commercialism.

Love Actually

Love Actually… Continues

Like Elf, 2003 birthed another Christmas cult classic. As we all followed the lives of eight very different, but loosely connected couples, in the run-up to Christmas in London.

The many turtlenecks, questionable dance moves, and iconic love declarations on placards collectively make Love Actually a film steeped in nostalgic charm. But what would feature in the second instalment?

AI has envisioned dramatic career shifts, unexpected turns of fate, and, of course, the enduring theme of love that captured our hearts in the first place.

The second instalment of the AI-generated sequel follows some of the main characters from the original in their quest for love during the festive season. Here is AI’s sequel synopsis:

In ‘Love Actually Continues’, Karen (Emma Thompson) navigates the bittersweet journey of finding unexpected love after the passing of her former husband, Harry. Natalie (Martine McCutcheon) juggles her newfound responsibilities of being the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and her enduring affection for David (Hugh Grant). Jamie (Colin Firth) and Aurelia (Lúcia Moniz) continue to find solace and strength in their enduring marriage, standing firm against life's challenges.

Mark (Andrew Lincoln) unexpectedly finds a profound romance with Juliet (Keira Knightley) after the tragic loss of her husband, Peter (Chiwetel Ejiofor). Daniel (Liam Neeson) finds challenges with his second wife Carol (Claudia Schiffer) after finding out about her office affair. Colin (Kris Marshall) embraces fame, offering humorous relationship advice through his popular YouTube channel. Meanwhile, Sam (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) achieves musical success, touring New York City, and reconnects with his childhood crush, Joanna (Olivia Olson), sparking a rekindled romance.

Although no-one could replace Richard Curtis, AI has done a good job of creating pure holiday magic with these seasonal sequels. These AI-generated films add a dash of tech advancement to our festive favourites.

So, here’s to a tech-infused, heartwarming Christmas movie marathon that's as unpredictable and charming as the originals!
